Supersub Canavan sinks Donegal
Peter Canavan was involved in Errigal Ciaran's All-Ireland campaign
Canavan scored 1-1 within four minutes of his introduction

Tyrone 1-14 0-9 Donegal

The introduction of Peter Canavan after half-time was the big factor in Tyrone's eight point victory over Donegal at Coalisland.

Neither side impressed in the first half but five Adrian Sweeney points left Donegal 0-7 to 0-4 ahead and seemingly on course to repeat last season's NFL win over the Red Hand County.

However a minute into the second half, Tyrone lost Kevin Hughes who had to be stretchered off.

With Tyrone already having lost Declan McCrossan to injury, Canavan was called upon.

His impact was immediate with him grabbing 1-1 in a four-minute period.

The impressive Brian Dooher produced a superb 50 yard run to set up Canavan's goal which was delightfully finished to the net by the Errigal Ciaran star.

The goal left Tyrone 1-8 to 0-8 ahead and, in truth, Donegal never recovered.

Sean Cavanagh had a fine game at midfield for Tyrone with his contribution including three splendid second half points.

The result was Donegal's fourth successive defeat and Brian McEniff's side look odds-on to suffer relegation.

Armagh 0-14 0-9 Roscommon

All-Ireland Champions Armagh endured a few difficult moments before eventually claiming a deserved win over Roscommon at Crossmaglen.

An impressive opening quarter from Frankie Dolan helped the Connacht county to a 0-5 to 0-3 lead after 22 minutes.

However, midfielders Paul McGrane and Philip Loughran then began to establish a measure of control which helped the home team to a 0-7 to 0-6 interval lead.

Armagh's first half points included three scores from the impressive Paddy McKeever.

Two superb John McEntee points helped Armagh extend their advantage in the third quarter.

Dolan, so influential in the first half, blotted his copybook in the closing stages by being sent off after tangling with Francie Bellew.

He received a second yellow card so Dolan should be available for Roscommon's game next weekend.
