Glenn Ferguson scored Linfield's first goal against Coleraine |
Linfield 2-0 Coleraine
Coleraine's long winning run came to end at Windsor Park as Glenn Ferguson and Paul McKnight got the goals for Linfield.
The Bannsiders had not been beaten in the Irish League for 18 matches but they had an off day against the Blues.
It was a big disappointment for Marty Quinn's men as they had been aiming to cut the gap between them and second-placed Portadown to three points.
The runners-up in the Premier Division are guaranteed a place in next season's Uefa Cup.
Ferguson got the opener in the first minute of the second half, sliding the ball inside the far post from 12 yards.
Then McKnight made it two for the Blues by scoring just 30 seconds after coming on as a substitute.
Ferguson played a perfectly-weighted return pass into the path of McKnight who shot first time past Davy O'Hare on 65 minutes.
