Harkin blasts fellow officials
Brendan Devenney's St Eunan's were thrown out of the Donegal Championship earlier this month

Controversial Donegal GAA chairman Danny Harkin has said that he can longer work with three prominent officials within the county's hierarchy.

Donegal remains polarised by a bitter dispute between the county chairman and his fellow top officials.

The other members of the Donegal GAA executive called a meeting for Wednesday evening to hear a motion of no-confidence in Harkin's leadership of the county.

However, Harkin declared the specially-convened gathering null and void on procedural grounds and using his chairman's powers, closed the meeting after only 15 minutes.

Harkin told the BBC on Thursday that he could no longer work with county secretary Noreen Doherty plus vice-chairman PJ McGowan and development officer Mick McGrath.

"It's them or me," said Harkin.

"I have no problem with the other executive members but I cannot work with those three people," he added.

Harkin's fellow Donegal officials have called another meeting for Monday evening to discuss the chairman's future.

However, Harkin told the BBC that he would not be attending the meeting.

This has to be cleared up before the county convention

"No one contacted me about a meeting next Monday - a meeting which I'm not available for anyway because I will be out of the country.

"A secretary who calls a meeting of any organisation, the first person to inform should be the chairperson of that body".

Harkin said he would be writing to Noreen Doherty asking that an extraordinary general meeting of Donegal club delegates should be held within the next 10 days to discuss the row afflicting the county.

"If the delegates come in and vote me out, I'll respect that as a democrat," said Harkin.

"This has to be cleared up before the county convention. We must not leave it until then".
