Larsen deserves step-up - English

Newcastle Diamonds team boss George English has revealed number one rider Kenni Larsen is ready to step up to the Elite League next season.

Larsen, 22, could even make the move into the Elite League with Newcastle if they win the two-legged promotion match against Ipswich Witches.

"He won the riders championship, he's done everything he can in this league now," English told BBC Look North.

"If he wants to progress to Grand Prix level, it's time to move on."

English added: "Whether we can beat Ipswich and he stays with us, remains to be seen, that is a possibility.

"But if not, he will get transferred to an Elite League club during the winter."

We've reached every final that we can this year, we've finished second in the league, we've got the individual riders champion

Diamonds have enjoyed a very successful season so far, lifting the Premier Trophy and Premier League play-off trophy.

And the Brough Park outfit could complete a quadruple swoop with victories against Edinburgh and Ipswich in the Premier League Knockout Cup and Promotion-Relegation Decider respectively.

"At the very start of the season we said we wanted to be competitive in every competition we're entered for," English continued.

"As we've reached every final that we can this year, we've finished second in the league, we've got the individual riders champion, then I think we've certainly achieved that.

"We've given our supporters a reward for their loyalty over the years."
