Former Durham pace bowler Luke Evans joins Northants

Northants have signed pace bowler Luke Evans following his release by Durham.

The 23-year-old, who played two County Championship games while on loan at Northants during the 2010 season, has signed a two-year deal at Wantage Road.

"To have the chance to come to Northants and play is absolutely fantastic," said Evans.

"Over the last few seasons at Durham, there sadly hasn't been enough opportunity to play first XI cricket so it was something I needed to address."

Evans continued: "I'm sad to be leaving the club where I've grown up and developed as a player.

"I would like to thank all the coaching and playing staff for their help and advice over the years and of course, to the Durham members who always showed their support.

"But if I'm going to continue to progress I need to be playing regular first-class cricket."

The depth of our bowling attack has meant that he hasn't had the chance to play for us a great deal

Northants head coach David Capel added: "He has a desire, determination and commitment to perform wholeheartedly for his team and I look forward to him becoming a big asset to Northants for the foreseeable future."

On Evans' departure, Durham head coach Geoff Cook said: "Luke really benefited from a short loan spell during the season, it gave him a real chance to showcase his talent as well as a real hunger to play first-team cricket.

"The depth of our bowling attack has meant that he hasn't had the chance to play for us a great deal in the four day game.

"I'd like to thank Luke for his contribution and dedication to Durham and wish him all the best."
