Franklin is one of three teenagers signed to ride for the Heathens |
Dudley Heathens have added Ben Taylor and Richard Franklin to their line-up for their inaugural season in the National League. They join talented 15-year-old Ashley Morris as the first three riders named by boss Will Pottinger. "I'm very happy to have secured Ben - I remember watching him beat Steve Johnston at Birmingham last year, he is a talented rider," said Pottinger. "Richard was very keen to ride for Dudley when the news was announced." The eagerly awaited return of the Heathens name to speedway after 15 years will see them split their home meetings between Perry Barr and Monmore Green, and they are investing in young, promising riders. | He has visited most away tracks a few times - that should work in our favour Heathens promoter Will Pottinger on Richard Franklin |
Taylor, 19, is a Birmingham Brummies asset who grew up in West Yorkshire, and brings with him a sound knowledge of the Perry Barr track. Franklin, 18, is from Coventry and was a Scunthorpe rider in 2009, and he was eager to join a club closer to home. "I feel he will only get better as the season progresses," noted Pottinger. "He has visited most away tracks a few times now so that should hopefully work in our favour as well." Three more riders are expected to be confirmed in the Dudley line-up in the next seven days.
