Smith has pushed his average up to 5.38 this season, despite his injuries
Kozza Smith faces the rest of the summer on the sidelines after a crash while riding for King's Lynn Stars.
Smith, who also missed the start of the Stars' season, crashed during Lynn's defeat at Rye House, team promoter Buster Chapman told BBC Radio Norfolk.
"Apparently it didn't look a very bad accident, but he has broken his leg and his ankle," Chapman said.
"He had a terrible start to the season and now he's having a bad finish - in between he's been riding brilliantly."
Chapman continued: "He must be devastated because he really has been on-form. He's started showing the potential that we all believe he has got."
"He's been riding exceptionally well, it's just a shame for him and the club that this has happened."
The Stars welcome reigning Premier League champions Edinburgh Monarchs to the Norfolk Arena on Wednesday evening, but Chapman admits finding a longer-term replacement won't be easy.
"That's the problem we have. We're having a look around and will be using Simon Lambert for Wednesday night, so that's a good replacement at home.
"We've got Stoke away on Saturday so we'll have a look around and see what's happening, who's doing well at what track and try to get a good guest until we can find a suitable replacement," he said.
