Hammers boss backs play-off tweak

Jon Cook
Cook is looking forward to a semi-final against Swindon in the Knockout Cup

Lakeside Hammers co-promoter Jon Cook has applauded a decision by Elite League clubs to reduce the play-offs from six teams to four.

Although the Essex side currently sit sixth in the table, Cook believes the mid-season change is the right one.

"A six-team play-off system in a league of only nine was clearly too large," said the Essex-outfit's team manager.

"That a team could come from fifth or sixth to win the the title undermines the whole 32-match league system."

The Hammers take a break from league action this week, with their focus turning to a two-leg Knockout Cup semi-final against the Swindon Robins on Thursday and Friday.
