Jason Lyons took over as Brummies' skipper during the 2007 season |
Birmingham go head-to-head with former skipper Brent Werner when they face up to Newport in the Premier Trophy at Perry Barr on Wednesday. Werner retired from the sport midway through 2007, passing the Brummies' captaincy on to Jason Lyons. He returned to speedway with Somerset last season and is now part of a reformed Wasps team which had disbanded when owner Tim Stone passed away. Another former Brummie Craig Watson misses out with a broken leg. "They've really pushed the boat out to put together a powerful side at Newport," said Birmingham boss Graham Drury. "This will be a tough test for us but after our win against Rye House last week we're really looking forward to this one." The Brummies are also reminding supporters that all of this season's home meetings start at the earlier time of 1930 BST.
