Peterborough Panthers team captain Ryan Sullivan has pulled out of both Elite League relegation play-offs against Wolverhampton next week. The Australian was drafted into the side in August following the departure of former captain Hans Andersen in a dispute over pay. His short-term contract expired at the end of the regular season but the club hoped he would stay for the play-offs. Promoter Mick Bratley said: "I won't hide the fact we are disappointed." | Rory will make Speedway history in being the first ever rider to participate in a promotion and relegation play-off in the same season Peterborough pormoter Mick Bratley |
Australian Rory Schlein has been booked to replace Sullivan for the matches on 14 and 16 October. Schlein has been riding for Ipswich since August, and took part in the play-off semi-final against Championship contenders Poole. Bratley said: "We are confident he will provide adequate cover for his fellow countryman. "In fact, I believe, Rory will make Speedway history in being the first ever rider to participate in a promotion and relegation play-off in the same season."
