Doyle (r) helped the Rebels claim a dramatic win (Mike Manning) |
Newcastle Diamonds rider Sean Stoddart managed to avoid serious injury after a crash ended his race early in Sunday's last-heat home 48-47 loss to Somerset. The 21-year-old was down on the track for several minutes before walking to the pits with his arm in a sling suffering soft tissue damage. The hosts led for the whole meeting and led by 12 points with five heats to go. But a maximum 5-1 from Jason Doyle and Emil Kramer in the last heat at Brough Park secured victory for Somerset. Stoddart told the club's website: "There's no major damage done. It's still very painful and it feels very sore. "I think I'll be back to normal again in a few days." Diamonds manager George English said: "We were just not good enough, although for a while it looked as though we were going to pull off a shock, as the lads really did well in the first two thirds of the meeting, but what a way to fold afterwards." The Rebels are now four points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
