Lowes is the reigning British Supersport champion

Lincoln's Sam Lowes escaped serious injury after crashing spectacularly in the World Supersport championship race at Assen in the Netherlands.

He was knocked unconscious after being thrown from his Honda on lap six.

Lowes, 20, was taken to hospital suffering from a broken collarbone and concussion but released on Monday.

His Parkalgar Honda team are hopeful that he will be fit for the next round of the series at Monza, Italy on May 8.

The defending British Supersport champion's crash, in which he high-sided on the exit of the Strubben corner while challenging for the lead, led to the race being red-flagged and restarted.

The race, which was halted for a second time after an incident involving Alexander Lundh, was eventually won by Yamaha's Chaz Davies.
