Lincoln's Sam Lowes took an impressive third place in round one of the World Supersport Championship at Phillip Island in Australia.

The Parkalgar Honda rider, 20, led in the final corner after a brilliant move to pass Luca Scassa on the last lap.

But he was beaten in the run to the line, finishing 0.033s behind Scassa with Broc Parkes snatching second.

Lowes said: "Third in my first race is great. I am loving my team and my bike, I am enjoying myself."
