Chaz Davies targets World Supersport Championship title

Herefordshire motorcycle star Chaz Davies is aiming to win the World Supersport Championship this year.

Davies has switched from BE-1 Triumph Racing to the Yamaha Parkingo team and is confident of being very competitive.

"Things are starting to click into place especially if I can rediscover the consistency I had last year.

"There are some good riders out there and I see about four of five of us being fairly close but the goal is to come out with the championship."

Davies enjoyed his most consistent season for years in 2010 when he and the BE-1 Triumph Racing team were competitive in the vast majority of races.

He had initially agreed to remain with the team for the 2011 season but these plans altered when it became clear the funding would not be there for a serious title challenge.

"We tested in October and everything was very good as we were really competitive," he told BBC Hereford and Worceser.

"The boys had developed the bikes right up to Christmas-time - they had gone through every nut and bolt on the thing trying to get more power and advance in the electronics.

"But I then got a phone call in January saying that things weren't looking quite so promising with Triumph as my team couldn't come to a deal.

"When they eventually went to sign the contract there was a disagreement on both sides and so we eventually ended up turning to Yamaha," he added.

While initially disappointed that he would not be able to further develop what had clearly been a successful project with the BE-1 Racing team, Davies says the Yamaha package was a very satisfactory compensation.

"We have got a great bike there to work with and I am really pleased to have made the switch," he said.

"Yamaha didn't see fit to back any team last year as they didn't see any team that was good enough - the bikes are basically Yamaha's babies.

"They saw what we did last year so they are fairly confident in my team and they have said we can run them.

"They have given us a couple of their guys to work with so we have got these good bikes and the boys don't even have to work on developing them," he added.

Davies is delighted that his entire back-up team made the transfer with him to Yamaha and they are now in Australia preparing for the first race of the 2011 season.

This will be staged at Phillip Island in Victoria on Sunday 27 February.
