Scott Redding won the 2008 British 125cc Grand Prix |
Gloucestershire's teenage motorcycle star Scott Redding is determined to repay the faith of his new team during the 2010 season. Redding won the 2008 British 125cc Grand Prix at the age of 15 but had a difficult 2009. Now he has stepped up to the new Moto2 class with the Marc VDS Racing Team Redding told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: "No team really wanted to take me on, and I am going to do the best I can to thank them taking me on." He will have his first test ride on his new bike in Barcelona on Thursday. "I've been waiting for it all winter, and I can't wait to sit on it," he added. "It's a new class, and everyone has the same bike and same engine, but I'm not really sure what to expect. "I want to do the best I can for the team and myself, and I will try my hardest in every race." Redding made history at Donington in 2008 as he became the youngest rider of all time to win a Grand Prix race, aged 15 years and 170 days. He was the 2008 125cc Rookie of the Year, finishing 11th overall and earned himself a factory bike for 2009, continuing with the Blusens Aprilia team. But he suffered a year filled with mechanical problems and bad luck, as he failed to finish eight races and finished 15th overall.
