Lincolnshire's Steve Plater took victory in the final round of the World Endurance Championship in Qatar.

The win at Losail meant Plater and Yamaha Austria team-mates Igor Jerman and Steve Martin secured second place overall behind the SERT Suzuki team.

He said: "It's awesome to end my season on the top step of the podium.

"Apart from Suzuka, I've led every world endurance race this year but until now have missed out on the win. This more than makes up for that."

Plater is expected to announce his World Endurance Championship plans for 2009 shortly.

He has already confirmed that he will be racing for the HM Plant Honda team in the British Supersport Championship and at the Isle of Man TT and North West 200 road races.
