John McGuinness celebrated another TT triumph on Friday |
John McGuinness claimed his 14th Isle of Man TT win with victory in Friday's six-lap Senior race. The Englishman came in 51 seconds ahead of Cameron Donald with Ian Hutchinson, Ryan Farquhar, Steve Plater and Gary Johnson completing the top six. Donald led before suffering mechanical problems while McGuinness set the week's fastest lap of 129.51mph. Bruce Anstey, who was leading after lap two, Guy Martin, Adrian Archibald and Conor Cummins were forced to retire. New Zealand rider Anstey retired at the pit stop with a clutch problem while Martin is still seeking his first TT success after his race ended after two laps. Donald was slightly ahead of McGuinness on the final lap when mechanical problems with his Relentless TAS Suzuki ruined any chance of completing a hat-trick of victories this week. "That was the race to win - the blue riband event," said Honda ace McGuinness. "The bike was faultless and we have two great pitstops. "I've had bits of bad luck all week and this race could have gone either way so it was our turn to get a bit of luck and I thoroughly enjoyed it. "Everyone enjoyed it and there hasn't been a Senior race as close as this for years - it was magic." Keith Amor also retired during the race while Ballymoney's Michael Dunlop secured a 10th place finish on his Phase One Yamaha. McGuinness has now joined Mike Hailwood as the second most successful rider ever at the TT, behind 26-time winner Joey Dunlop.
