The crowd are close to the action at the Cadders Hill track |
The British Motocross Championship heads to Lyng on Sunday for round four of the 2008 series. The course at Cadders Hill is a rarity on the tour as its main 60ft jump is on a naturally formed hill. The Norfolk village track, 20km north of Norwich, has incorporated a new section and chicane in recent years. Phil Armes, who helps organise the event, said: "Motocross is one of the most spectacular forms of motorsport, and one of the most accessible." | Currently fourth in the World Championship, Billy MacKenzie is absolutely unstoppable at the moment |
He added: "That's what makes it so popular amongst those who aren't usually big motorsport fans, you can get right alongside the track." The best chance of local success could be Mildenhall rider Carl Nunn, who is ninth in the MX2 class riding for SUSO Suzuki. Bury St Edmunds team Swift Suzuki have a good chance in the MX1 class and Brad Anderson, their top rider, is fifth in the standings. Billy MacKenzie is the man to beat, the reigning MX1 champion has won all six domestic races this season, and Armes says he is getting better. "Since he moved to the CAS Honda team he's gone on to another level, he's currently fourth in the world championship, Billy is absolutely unstoppable at the moment. "Having said that Billy could get caught up at the first corner, and away the rest go." Both the MX1 and MX2 classes have two races during the afternoon programme, with race action getting underway at 1230 BST, after a full morning's qualifying that starts at 0930.
