Cumbrian motocross riders are expected to feature heavily in the British MMX Championship at Dean Moor, near Workington, on 18 May.

Current British Open Motocross Champion Wayne Smith returns to his home town as he looks to retain his title.

Fellow Cumbrians Richard Lawson, 22, and Jamie Law, 21, will be expected to provide a local challenge to Smith.

Ben Magee, 21, and Graham Riley, 20, also local riders, will be appearing in the Under-21 Championship event.

The ACU British Quad Cross Championship will also be taking place over the weekend.

Alston's Mark Watson, 22, holds fourth place in the championship standings and will be joined in the event by William Waggott, 37, from Carlisle.

Wayne Tyson, from Kirkby Stephen, is one of the youngest competitors, with his 17th birthday coming just two days before the start of the event.
