Eugene Laverty has picked up six points in the 250cc series |
Toomebridge rider Eugene Laverty finished 19th of the 20 finishers in Sunday's Japanese 250cc motorcycle grand prix in Motegi. Laverty remains on his tally of six World Championship points and he is 25th in the standings.
The Northern Ireland rider secured two points last weekend by finishing 14th in the Portuguese 250ccGP at Estoril.
Finland's Mika Kallio claimed his Grand Prix win in Sunday's race by finishing ahead of Honda's Andrea Dovizioso.
Italian Dovizioso closed the gap on championship leader Jorge Lorenzo to 36 points with three races left after the Spaniard could only finish 11th on his Aprilia.
Lorenzo's fellow Spaniard and Aprilia team mate Hector Barbera finished a distant third but that was good enough for the Italian manufacturer to clinch their seventh constructors' title.
Lorenzo could have wrapped up his second straight championship had he won in Japan and his closest rivals
struggled.
He still leads the standings with 262 points with Dovizioso on 226 and San Marino's Alex de Angelis on 208.
