Anstey pushes his bike to the limit around the TT course

The flying Kiwi secured his sixth overall win on the island 40 seconds ahead of runner-up John McGuinness.

Anstey beat the lap record twice, posting a best new time of 128.40mph, and he also broke the race record by more than a minute.

Ian Hutchinson from Yorkshire was third with Dubliner Martin Finnegan fourth.

"In the first two laps I just put my head down, caught Finnegan and got by him quite quickly," said Anstey.

"It went really well early in the race and then I just kept an eye on the tyre towards the end but it went the distance.

"The pitstops were quiet and smooth - I couldn't ask for any more."

New Zealander Shaun Harris, twice a TT winner, came off at Union Mills and sustained serious injuries, including major fractures. He is being treated at Nobles Hospital.

Adrian Archibald retired at the end of the first lap while Guy Martin and Ryan Farquhar ran out of fuel on lap two.

Anstey showed his intentions from the outset by setting a new lap record of 17 minutes, 38seconds on the opening lap, a fact made even more remarkable given it was from a standing start.

McGuinness, the winner of the Superbike TT on Monday, was finding it increasingly difficult to stay with him in second place, while Hutchinson, Finnegan and Martin were competing for third.

After the first lap, Anstey's lead was already 13 seconds, and it was pushed out to 23 seconds after lap two when the Kiwi bettered his new lap record by almost a second.

Anstey had increased his lead by another four seconds by the end of the third lap.

There was no letting up by Anstey on the final lap, and again he was fastest round the course to the delight of the travelling contingent from New Zealand.
