John McGuinness achieved his third win at the 2006 TT festival |
John McGuinness completed a treble on the Isle of Man by winning Friday's showpiece finale, the Senior TT. The latest win brought McGuinness level with the third most successful riders in TT history, Ulsterman Phillip McCallen and Steve Hislop.
HM Plant ace McGuinness, who had already won the TT Superbike race and Junior Supersport, finished 20 seconds ahead of Australian Cameron Donald.
New Zealand's Bruce Anstey finished third with Ian Lougher in fourth place.
Saintfield's Davy Morgan was the best Ulsterman with a fine seventh-place finish while Donegal rider Raymond Porter was eighth.
McGuinness, riding the 1000cc HM Plant Honda Fireblade, twice broke the outright lap record on the way to claiming victory and the course best now stands at a breathtaking 129.45mph.
"It has been awesome, winning a treble," he said.
"This bike has been specifically built for the TT and it has been working perfectly. It has never missed a beat and the conditions have been getting better and better all week.
"The course was getting cleaner and the rubber has been going down so it was more like racing on a short circuit than the Mountain Course. But it was a hard race."
