Jeremy McWilliams is keeping his options open |
Jeremy McWilliams has played down talk of a surprise return to MotoGP with the WCM Bimota team. After an injury-plagued season with Stobart Honda in British Superbikes, McWilliams, 41, has been named on the 2006 provisional MotoGP entry list.
But the Ulsterman said: "I'm very flattered to be named but whether I make a return remains to be seen.
"There are many loose ends to be tied up and plenty of other opportunities I have been pursuing."
McWilliams is the last British rider to win at MotoGP, at the 2001 250cc Dutch TT.
He added: "I find it amazing that people still talk about Jeremy McWilliams coming back.
"But I have some things going on in America and some testing so I will have to sit down and decide what to do."
McWilliams had just one MotoGP ride last season for the KR team at Brno, in the Czech Republic.
And his efforts in the British Superbikes Championship were hampered by a shoulder injury, from which he has now fully recovered.
WCM Bimota want the Belfast-born rider to race alongside American unknown Jason Perez.
He said: "Whatever happens I think the WCM team really deserves success and if they can get the funding together I think they will be competitive with the KTM engines.
The 17-round MotoGP World Championship starts with the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez on March 26.
