Jeremy McWilliams could make a return to the MotoGP series, riding a KTM machine for the WCM racing team. The Glengormley rider is in discussions with team manager Peter Clifford about riding the machines in the 2006 season.
The team are developing their plans around the KTM V4 engines and have also spoken to German racer Alex Hofmann.
Last year, the outfit campaigned James Ellison and Franco Battiani on their own built four-cylinder and scored a total of 14 points.
Ellison secured the team's best finish with an eleventh position at the Japanese Grand Prix.
WCM had planned to campaign the Blata V6 in 2005, but with the announcement of new 800cc engine rules from 2007, the overdue Blata project is looking increasingly unlikely to reach the racetrack.
"We have been offered the KTM engines and are developing plans around that. We are making progress with the required funding and chassis builder," Clifford told Crash.net.
The V4 engine was previously used by Team Roberts, who scored only one point, before a sudden split prior to the German Grand Prix on 31 July.
McWilliams endured a miserable season in 2005, with injury limiting his appearances for the Stobart Honda team in British Superbikes.
He made a solitary appearance in MotoGP, aboard the Roberts Proton machine in the Czech Republic round at Brno in August.
