Toseland enjoyed a successful day in front of his home fans

The reigning champion finished race two 0.473 seconds ahead of championship leader Troy Corser of Australia, with Japan's Noriyuki Haga in third.

Toseland passed Haga on lap 16 and then Corser a lap later. He also took third place in the first race.

That was won by his Ducati Xerox team-mate Regis Laconi, also claiming his first win of the season.

The Frenchman held off a challenge from Corser on the final lap to finish 0.096 secs ahead of the Alstare Suzuki rider.

Corser has increased his lead over team-mate Yukio Kagayama in the overall standings to 78 points.

Kagayama could only finish 11th in race one and seventh in race two.

A delighted Toseland said: "I did it the hard way. I let them get away at the start and then I had to chip away.

"With Nori (Haga) and Troy in front of me, it was like riding behind a wall but I passed them in the same place.

"I was pretty shattered after finishing third in the first race but I feel like brand new now I've got first."

Toseland's two podium finishes moved him up to fifth overall, 124 points behind Corser and 24 ahead of fellow Briton Chris Walker, who was sixth in both races.
