 Corser has made an excellent start to the new season |
Troy Corser increased his lead in the World Superbike Championship with a win and a third place at Monza. Corser held off Suzuki team-mate Yukio Kagayama in race one, with world champion James Toseland third for his first podium finish of the season.
Honda's Chris Vermeulen bounced back from a retirement to win race two from Ducati rider Regis Laconi and Corser.
Corser now leads Kagayama by 52 points, with Toseland's fifth in race two taking him up to sixth overall.
The championship leader blamed braking problems for denying him a seventh win in eight races. But Kagayama's failure to finish in race two, skidding off at the Lesmo corner, still saw the Australian end the day with a 21-point gain.
