Toseland aims for first home win
James Toseland
World Superbike champion James Toseland is determined to end his poor record in England and earn a landmark win at this weekend's fifth round at Silverstone.

Toseland, who lies in sixth place in the rider standings after a disappointing start to the season, has struggled to shine in England.

"I have never won a world championship status race in England," the 24-year-old told BBC Sport.

"It is about time I did. I owe it to myself and everyone who watches me."

Toseland has yet to claim his first win of the campaign after a series of problems with his Ducati Xerox 999FO5 machine.

However, there was a big improvement in Monza last time out as Toseland finished third and fifth.

"Monza was good but we tested in Mugello afterwards and it was even better than that," he added.

"There were a lot of new parts and we had to test everything, but now things are looking good. I'm feeling a lot more confident now.

As far as the whole package and the team is concerned, I believe the Ducati is still the bike to beat

"As far as the whole package and the team is concerned, I believe the Ducati is still the bike to beat.

"I am not going to say silly comments like I am going to win both races but I am coming here knowing I have got a good chance of winning.

"It is always good to have a good result but especially at home. It is for the home crowd mainly.

"They will be coming to Silverstone knowing that I have got a chance after seeing me at Monza."

Toseland is currently 125 points behind leader Troy Corser, who has set the championship alight on his Suzuki with six race wins out of eight.

But the Sheffield-born rider, who won the 2004 title after overtaking Regis Laconi in the final round, has assured his rivals that he is not ready to throw in the towel just yet.

"I am not thinking the title race is over at all," he added. "Like I proved last year, I certainly am not going to give up. It's not in my nature.

"I am not surprised at Troy's form. I have known his capabilities for a long time.

"If he ends up taking the title then good on him but I am not going to give it to him, that's for sure."
