Our series of photos aimed at showing a different side of Formula 1 continues with an overhead shot of Lewis Hamilton powering his way to victory at the Singapore Grand Prix. The photographs are taken by Darren Heath, who over the last 20 years has carved a reputation as one of the best photographers working within the sport. This is Darren's story behind his latest image: "Blasting his way out of Turn Nine, Singapore Grand Prix race winner Lewis Hamilton gets the hammer down for the straight ahead. "I love the challenge of photographing Formula 1 on street tracks and they don't come much better than shooting the night race at the Marina Bay circuit. "The stand-out location in Singapore for snappers wishing to get an overhead vantage point is the Swissotel The Stamford [hotel], affording incredible views of the circuit that I defy any grand prix regular not to be awestruck by. "The vista below as the cars scream around the floodlit track with a backdrop of twinkling skyscrapers really does take your breath away. "Granted access to a couple of rooms - both high and low - I concentrated on conveying the power and speed of the cars when shooting from the ninth floor. "Choosing a very slow shutter speed and a 600mm lens I panned the MP4-24 through the turn and kept it in frame as the car raced away. The effect of shooting above the floodlights combined with the car rushing under the tree canopy gives a fantastic sense of power and motion. "Some cars liveries' work far better than others in such conditions and none more so than the metallic bodywork of the McLaren machines. Combined with the balance of yellows, reds, greens and blacks across the shot, the picture has all the elements I hoped for." Camera: Canon EOS1DS Mark3. Lens: 600mm Exposure: 1/13th second @ f/13
