| Lapwatch: German GP qualifying ![]() All the action as Michael Schumacher ends Juan Pablo Montoya's run of poles with the fastest time in qualifying for the German Grand Prix at the remodelled Hockenheim track. All times BST. Leading grid positions for the German Grand Prix: 1300: Ralf Schumacher is unable to improve on his position and Montoya fails to complete his lap as his run of five successive poles ends. Michael Schumacher secures the 47th pole of his career. 1258: Michael Schumacher is ahead of his brother Ralf after two sections and he pinches pole in the dying seconds with a lap of 1:14.389. 1257: Barrichello is quickest on the first section but he loses time in the final two as he stays in third. 1256: Heidfeld goes into ninth place in Sauber's spare car. 1255: Barrichello goes out for his final attempt to move ahead of the Schumachers and onto the front row. 1253: There looks to be no late run from Montoya this time as he is unable to improve on his fourth place. 1251: Ralf Schumacher sets a new fastest lap with just nine minutes remaining of qualifying. The German records a time of 1:14.570 to go ahead of his big brother. 1250: Barrichello sets a time of 1:14.715 on his penultimate lap, just 0.087secs behind Michael Schumacher. 1249: Michael Schumacher is over half a second quicker on the first two sections and goes into the lead with a lap of 1:14.628. 1247: Kimi Raikkonen goes ahead of his McLaren team-mate David Coulthard and into fifth place. 1245: With 15 minutes left of qualifying Ferrari hold the top two places, with Barrichello leading the way. Ralf Schumacher is in third and Montoya fourth. 1242: Montoya is back on track for his second lap, but he is unable to trouble the pace-setters as he moves into fourth. 1241: Barrichello is allowed past by Michael Schumacher and goes on to set a new fastest lap of 1:14.861 to lay down the gauntlet to his Ferrari team-mate. 1240: Michael Schumacher makes an early mistake and has to abandon his second lap. 1238: Ralf Schumacher sets a time of 1:15.172 to go above Barrichello and into second place. 1237: Raikkonen looks to be heading for a very quick time, but his final section lets him down and he has to settle for fourth place. 1236: BAR's Olivier Panis goes ahead of Fisichella and into fourth place. 1234: With 25 minutes to go in qualifying the two Ferraris currently occupy the front row on the grid, with Ralf Schumacher and Giancarlo Fisichella in third and fourth respectively. 1231: Rubens Barrichello goes into the lead with a time of 1:15.411, but he is on top for a matter of seconds as his team-mate Michael Schumacher sets the pace with a lap of 1:15.059. 1229: Juan Pablo Montoya looks on course for a new fastest lap but he slips off the track, he carries on and is still able to record the fifth quickest time. 1228: Ralf Schumacher goes out for his first lap and sets the pace with a time of 1:15.738, just as his brother Michael emerges from the pits. 1226: The action is beginning to hot up as McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen sets a new fastest lap of 1:16.182. 1223: Jacques Villeneuve goes quicker than Sato, but he soon slips into second as Sauber's Nick Heidfeld sets the fastest lap with a time of 1:17.335. 1222: Minardi's Mark Webber's time of 1:19.673 sees him ahead of his team-mate Yoong, but well down on Sato's leading time. 1220: The top teams are still to emerge onto the track, choosing instead to bide their time. 1217: Arrows driver Enrique Bernoldi cannot match Sato's early pace as he records a time of 1:18.132 on his first lap. The signs are that the circuit is not as quick as during the morning session. 1216: Sato is much quicker than Yoong's rather sluggish early lap as he crosses the line in 1:17.572. 1213: Jordan's Takuma Sato is the second driver to make it onto the track. 1208: Yoong sets the early mark at 1:21.471. 1206: Alex Yoong of Minardi is the first driver to appear. 1200 BST: A huge crowd is present to see newly-crowned world champion Michael Schumacher at the new-look Hockenheim, creating a great atmosphere for the start of qualifying. |
