| Jordan want Toyota engines ![]() Jordan is looking for a new engine supply Toyota has admitted that the Jordan team is interested in securing a supply of the Japanese company's Formula One engines in the future. But Toyota motorsport boss Ove Andersson has insisted that no agreement has been reached. Jordan have been expected for some time to lose their works Honda engines at the end of this year and are casting around to secure a competitive replacement supply. Speculation in F1 in recent weeks has suggested that Jordan will use Cosworth engines in 2003 but are trying to secure Toyota V10s for the following season.
It is claimed that Jordan are offering their Japanese driver Takuma Sato - a Honda protege - to Toyota in return for the engines. Andersson said at the German Grand Prix: "There is absolutely no agreement and we have no plans to supply engines to any other team at the moment. "We are busy trying to get on top of our own problems and to think about supplying another team with engines at this moment in time is definitely not in our plans." Jordan have a contract for next year with Honda, Toyota's Japanese rival. Honda has dropped hints that it wants to concentrate on just one team - and that it would prefer it to be BAR, the other team that use its engines. However, there has been speculation at the German Grand Prix that Honda may make a U-turn and stick with Jordan after all - in order to keep hold of Sato. Getting hold of a supply of Toyotas would be a big boost for Jordan. The Honda engine has been disappointing for the last two years, while Toyota's has made a strong impression this season. A Honda spokesman said: "We're in the midst now of discussing that with Jordan Grand Prix and a joint decision between us and Jordan will be forthcoming in the near future." |
