Arrows to race in Germany
Heinz Harald Frentzen makes a brief appearance at Magny-Cours

Struggling Formula One team Arrows will race at this weekend's German Grand Prix but doubts about their future remain.

The threat of a ban hangs over the stricken team after their failure to qualify for the French Grand Prix raised suspicions.

However, a spokeswoman for Arrows has confirmed that the team will be on the grid at the revamped Hockenheim circuit.

"Tom (Walkinshaw) has told us we are here to race," she said.

Arrows face being charged with acting against the spirit of competition and have been warned that a repeat of their actions in France could see them thrown out of F1.

The team's drivers only completed three laps in qualifying and were outside the 107% cut-off point to make the race.

Statistics showed both drivers put in competitive times in the first two sectors, but slowed in the third to drop outside the qualifying time.

F1 rules require teams to make a genuine attempt to compete, but the team's parlous financial position meant they did not want to incur the costs of actually racing at Magny-Cours.

"If Arrows try to do what they did in France again at Hockenheim then the race director is very likely to prepare a report for the stewards," said a source close to governing body the FIA.

'Ready'

Arrows driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen said on Thursday that he believed the team would try to compete properly in Germany.

"I think we are ready to do this race in Hockenheim," the German said.

"Preparation has gone well, and the car is ready - so we are looking forward. I don't think we will see what happened in Magny Cours."

With the German and French races coming back-to-back, there has been no time for a definite ruling from the FIA.

But there will be a break after the Hockenheim race when Arrows' future is likely to be settled.
