Eastbourne Eagles co-promoter Mike Bellerby will urge his team to build a big lead in the first leg of the Elite League final.

The Sussex side welcome Poole Pirates to Arlington Stadium on Monday.

He told BBC Sussex: "I don't think being at home first is a disadvantage. We'll be looking to build up a substantial lead to take to Poole.

"I think if you can build up a lead in the first leg, then it's an easier task to defend it in the second leg."

It is the first time since winning the title in 2000 that the Eagles have made it to the grand final, and Bellerby says their riders need no motivation.

"The team know exactly what is expected of them," he said.

"They are all really focused and they all want to win this championship.

"We've had a fantastic year this season, but it would be the icing on the cake if we can bring back the championship trophy back to Arlington.

"It would be fabulous."

The season leg is at Wimborne Road seven days later.
