Swindon Robins went down to a 62-30 defeat in their opening meeting of the new speedway season at Belle Vue. The Robins received permission to race Polish pair Maciek Janowski and Tomasz Chrzanowski, but were rocked by Simon Stead and Scott Nicholls being absent. The hosts easily won, with James Wright top scoring after Robins skipper Stead was ruled out on medical grounds. Stead and Nicholls, who was stuck in traffic, will return for Wednesday's trip to King's Lynn. And the Robins are hopeful of bringing in a replacement signing for the injured Grzegorz Zengota in time for their home clash with Lakeside on Thursday.
