Herefordshire motorcyclist Chaz Davies felt his second-place finish in the World Supersport race at Donington was a bittersweet experience.

Welsh-born Davies pushed his Yamaha team-mate Luca Scassa late on, but finished second by 0.2 seconds.

"It could be taken as an excellent result because obviously I didn't get any points in the first race," he said.

"There were things I could have done to get that win but it didn't happen but I've got to be happy with 20 points."

Davies has high hopes for the new Yamaha bike this season after he and his team switched from Triumph during the winter.

The early signs have been encouraging as Luca Scassa won the opening round at Phillip Island in Australia and then the team achieved a one-two at Donington.

"Given that me and my team-mate were first and second there is no question over the bike - it is excellent," Davies told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"But you can always get it a little bit better and I felt I was struggling a little bit in the faster sections of the track for turning.

"I am going to work on that a little bit while I found a couple of things with my own body position on this bike that I am also going to work on," he added.

Davies has to wait until Sunday, 17 April for the next round of the World Supersport Championship which is to be staged at Assen in the Netherlands.

He is planning to work through some of the frustrations of Donington Park by riding motocross in the next couple of weeks.

"It is a little bit risky but at the end of the day we are motorbike racers," he said.

"You don't train to be a motorbike racer by sitting at home and playing the Xbox - you want to get out.

"There is that urge sometimes to get the frustration out of the system - I just want to get out there and ride something again."
