Coventry co-promoter Allen Trump is confident his side and Peterborough can reconcile their dispute with speedway's governing body this week.

The British Speedway Association is poised to run the Elite League without either of the clubs this season.

Trump told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I hold great hope and confidence we will be able to resolve something this week.

"It will not be formal contact with the BSPA, it's informal contact with certain promoters on the BSPA."

He will attempt to canvass support from fellow promoters in order to gain enough momentum to win a vote that would see the Bees and Panthers return.

The wrangle, which flared up in November, started when the two clubs demanded an overhaul of how the sport is run.

Trump added numerous deals had broken down in the final stages.

"This week I'm in a compromising, negotiating position, so I really don't want to point fingers, you could say there are faults on both sides," he said.

"But certainly with two or three of the agreements we have committed ourselves to, things were changed at the last minute."

Panthers team manager Trevor Swales revealed his outfit and Coventry had conceded ground on numerous demands.

But they were unwilling to flinch in their desire to see the sport governed by an independent body.

"The one main stumbling bock appears to be an independent overseer/appeals committee," he said.

"The biggest thing we need is a level playing field and at the moment we just don't have that.

"There are so many other clubs that feel the same but at the moment only Coventry and Peterborough are prepared to make the stance."
