Stoke Potters skipper Tony Atkin won the British Ice Open Championship in Telford for the first time on Sunday. The 43-year-old won all five of his races to finish with a a 15-point maximum and claim the trophy. "This is a great result for me and I'd like to thank the fans and all those people who have helped me," said Atkin. "I've seen what it means to people who win this title, it's great to have on the CV. It was a tough old meeting and I really had to work hard for it." Atkin finished ahead of reigning champion Martin Smolinski, who was second, and Aidan Collins, who collected bronze. He is one of three riders to have committed themselves to Stoke for the 2011 National League season, having re-joined the Potters from Newport.
