Two-Stroke racing has been taking part on the Billown since the 1960s |
Organisers of the Southern 100 and Post TT Road Races have confirmed that there will be 125cc and 250cc racing at both the Billown meetings. Earlier in the month, the organisers made an appeal to see if there was sufficient interest to stage the races. Press liaison officer Phil Edge said: "The answer was a resounding yes and we are very excited at the prospect of staging some great two-stroke races." The Post TT races are held in June with the Southern 100 in July. As in previous years, the 125cc machines will race with the four-stroke 400cc bikes, whilst the 250s will be incorporated with the fast growing SuperTwin 650cc class. This format wil be used in both the Post TT Road Races and the Southern 100 International Road Races, with separate prize funds for each class at both meetings. Race secretary George Peach added: "It is great that the popular two-stroke machines will once again be heard in anger around our Billown Course." The Post TT races are scheduled to take place on Saturday, 11 June, with the Southern 100 taking place between Monday, 11 and Thursday, 14 July 2011. Two-stroke races have been a fixture on the Billown circuit since the early 1960s. They were scrapped from the TT fortnight in 2006 because of a lack of competitive machinery and a fall in entry numbers.
