Birmingham Brummies have made Danish rider Rene Bach their first signing since announcing their step-up to the Elite League for 2011.

Bach, 20, will step up to the top level after an impressive season in the Premier League with Newcastle Diamonds.

Bach will 'double up' and continue to ride for the Diamonds next season.

Brummies boss Graham Drury said: "Rene is highly rated by Newcastle and likes the Perry Barr track. He has done well here when visiting with Newcastle."

Bach scored a 15-point maximum for Denmark when they won the World Under-21 Team Cup in September and emerged as one of the more promising young riders during last season for Newcastle.

Drury added: "He averaged over nine points in the Premier League and helped Newcastle to a very successful season. The fact that we have been able to sign him to double up for us is a real feather in our cap.

"The lad is very keen to ride for us too, that's an important factor. I'm sure he will do a good job for the team.

"I can also confirm I have been talking to a number one rider and, as previously stated, we have permission from Peterborough to speak to Hans Andersen, but he is not our only option. We will issue an update as and when we make progress."
