Wolverhampton Wolves rider Joe Haines injured in crash

Speedway

Wolverhampton Wolves rider Joe Haines is in hospital after suffering serious injuries in a crash during the Jack Young Cup meeting in Australia.

He is believed to have broken ribs, broken a shoulder, punctured a lung and suffered possible cracked vertebrae after crashing in the second race.

Wolves team-mate Ty Proctor accompanied Haines to hospital after withdrawing from Saturday's meeting.

Haines is currently under sedation to allow his lung to recover.

Meanwhile, Danish rider Nicolai Klindt has been released by the club following the new regulations to riders' averages for the coming 2011 season.

We would have liked to have kept Nicolai but we have to go by the rules

Club owner Chris Van Straaten on releasing Danish rider Nicolai Klindt

"It's one of those decisions which is taken with a lot of regret and unfortunately it's a consequence of us having to come below the points limit," said owner Chris Van Straaten.

"We would have liked to have kept Nicolai but we have to go by the rules and we cannot accommodate him at this stage.

"I would like to think somebody will take him on and I guess he will want to come back to Monmore and rub our noses in it!"
