Stead joined Swindon Robins in 2009 from Coventry Bees |
Swindon Robins have named Simon Stead as their captain for the 2011 season, replacing Leigh Adams who has retired from the sport. The 28-year-old was handed the armband by Adams at the Robins' end-of-season awards dinner at the weekend. "It was an emotional moment and something I'll never forget," Stead told BBC Wiltshire. "I just hope I can do it justice and Leigh will be there at the end of the phone if I need some advice." Stead continued: "If ever I could have learnt of anybody then Leigh Adams was the right person to learnt off. "I'm Swindon through and through, I really am. "I love this club and I'll be doing my all to help the team to get us the results we need to get up to the top of the table." It was a particularly good evening for Sheffield-born Stead who was also named as Robins' most improved rider. Mads Korneliussen won the award for scoring the most bonus points in 2010 while Adams picked up the fastest starter award and the Swindon Rider of the Year Award.
