Adams has no regrets about career

Swindon Robins legend Leigh Adams is preparing to bring down the curtain on his illustrious career with a farewell meeting at the Abbey Stadium on Sunday.

The 39-year-old Australian has spent 12 seasons at Blunsdon in three spells over a 20-year-period, becoming their record points scorer along the way.

"I'm not an emotional guy so I think I'll be OK but you never know what crops up," Adams told BBC Points West.

"Twenty-two years is a hell of a lot of racing, so we'll see what happens."

Adams has a host of individual and team honours from across Europe and in his native Australia, but was not able to help the Robins win the league for the first time since 1967.

"That's a little bit disappointing, as that was a passion of mine," said Adams.

"At the time it's a pretty deep cut, but I'm not going to go back to Australia bitter and twisted.

"I did my best as captain and tried everything to win but it wasn't to be for a number of reasons.

"I've taken a lot of silverware for Swindon - we've won the knock out cup and the Elite League riders championship, and won the pairs two years in a row.

"So I feel as though I've given a lot back to the club."

I won't miss the racing....But I will miss the supporters because that's what you race for to give them something back

Adams has brought together a stellar line-up for the meeting on Sunday which includes England's last World Champion Mark Loram as well as Swindon favourites Mads Korneliussen and Simon Stead.

"I've brought in a selection of old Swindon riders and new Swindon riders, along with some young Australians who remind me of when I was just starting out," said Adams.

"I won't miss the racing and I certainly won't miss the travelling, it's a crazy lifestyle," added the Robins captain.

"But I will miss the supporters because that's what you race for to give them something back.

"That's going to be the hardest part, missing all those people that cheer you on."
