Adams named Robins rider of year

Leigh Adams has been named Swindon's rider of the season for the seventh time

Swindon captain Leigh Adams has picked up the club's rider-of-the-year award for the seventh time.

Adams, an Australian international, also said he is likely to ride in the Grand Prix Series in 2009.

He told BBC Radio Swindon: "I just feel that if I bow out of the Grand Prix I'm going to fall in a heap, I think it keeps your edge there.

"We (Australia) still feel we can be world champion, but we are running out of years."

Adams was proud to be awarded the player-of-the-year prize, a competition voted for by Swindon supporters, and he was also pleased to help some of the club's younger riders develop during the campaign.

"It gave me a lot of enthusiasm at the start of the year to try to point them in the right direction. I had a great blast, it was good," he said.

The accolade for most improved rider went to Troy Batchelor and James Wright collected the prize for the team member picking up the most bonus points.
