Leigh Adams had three spells with Swindon Robins spanning 12 years |
Swindon Robins legend Leigh Adams came out on top in his final farewell invitational meeting at Blunsdon. A packed Abbey Road stadium gathered to pay homage to the record points scoring Aussie, who did not disappoint, winning all of his six races. "The support has been awesome," Adams told BBC Wiltshire. "I couldn't have asked for any more. "I've been blessed. Someone upstairs must be looking down on me as the weather's been fantastic." The 39-year-old Australian has lived in Swindon for over two decades and spent 12 of those riding for the Robins. But he is now returning with his family to his homeland. | The management have been good so don't stress I'm not irreplaceable and these young riders will be the next Leigh Adams |
"It's time for me to give something back to them," said Adams. "They've been chasing me around for the last 20 years. "We'll be back though. It's not like we're just up and leaving." Adams also had some words of reassurance for all the Swindon fans. "We've worked really hard over the last four or five years to bring in some good young Australians and they've brought in a couple of good, young Poles," he said. "I don't know who they are going to bring in to replace me but I'm quite sure it'll be good. "I'm not irreplaceable. These young riders will be the next Leigh Adams."
