Ipswich Witches' Chris Louis hopes to avoid 'disaster'

Defeat in this season's relegation play-off would be a disaster for the Ipswich Witches, says boss Chris Louis.

The Suffolk side are bottom of the Elite League and will face the eventual Premier League play-off winners for the right to stay in the top flight.

Louis told BBC Radio Suffolk: "There is a gap between the two leagues.

"It would be a disaster if over two legs we lost but if we had to face Edinburgh I think the away leg would be quite a challenge."

The Witches chief had stated earlier in the campaign that the club could benefit from a voluntary relegation to speedway's second division.

"Obviously it would be in our interests to make that decision quickly after the season," he added.

"It's no secret it's something we're looking at and considering, at the end of the day the numbers have to add up.

"We've got to put the club into a position where we can rebuild it and that may well be in the Premier League."

Ipswich head to Eastbourne on Thursday but will be unable to lift themselves off the foot of the table.
