Ipswich Witches boss wants bigger Elite League

Ipswich Witches boss Chris Louis says he wants more teams competing in speedway's Elite League.

His side are currently bottom of the country's highest division, which features nine clubs.

Louis told BBC Radio Suffolk: "I would prefer to see more teams in the top flight just to give it the variation.

"For me it doesn't work well at the moment and that's some of the thinking behind a possible decision to drop down to the Premier League."

Louis has previously disclosed that the club have considered voluntary relegation to speedway's second-tier.

"But that's really for this off-season, we want to concentrate on the Elite League season we've got at the moment. And that means not finishing bottom," he said.

If the Witches are to do that they need to start to picking up points, but have already been hampered by an injury to Robert Miskowiak.

The 26-year-old Pole is expected to be out for two weeks after dislocating an ankle against Wolverhampton on Monday.

Meanwhile Chris Slabon is set to make his Foxhall Stadium debut when Lakeside visit on Thursday.
