Russell became Swindon manager at the start of the season |
Swindon Robins team manager Ronnie Russell believes his side are racing just for pride now. A poor run of results saw the Robins lose seven meetings in a row during July and August, putting an end to their play-off hopes. "What we're doing now, we're riding for pride," Russell told BBC Wiltshire. "The play-offs aren't mathematically out of our reach, but we won't make them because a couple of our matches will be played after the cut-off time." Swindon slipped to second from bottom in the Elite League during the summer. They also had Thomas H Jonasson banned for the rest of the season in August after he failed to show up for a meeting. Russell is now hoping the squad can improve their reputation during the remaining races. "However many points we can amass between now and the end of the season obviously makes us look that little bit better." Swindon beat Ipswich earlier in the week and will look to make it two wins in a row at the Abbey Stadium on Thursday as they take on Wolverhampton.
