Russell took over at Swindon in January 2010 |
Peterborough have narrowly beaten fellow play-off hopefuls Swindon Robins 49-47 at the Abbey Stadium. Swindon were 17 points down at the half-way point but battled back impressively in the latter stages. "It was very, very poor starting. You can't live with it in this league, there's no room for it," said Robins team manager Ronnie Russell. "If we had won it probably would have been the biggest comeback in the history of mankind." Russell was also unimpressed with the officiating on the night. "I do believe that the referee does make a decision based on what he sees at the time," he said. "But certainly tonight on two occasions he was very, very wrong." The result marked the first time Peterborough have won at the Abbey Stadium in 26 attempts. Leigh Adams (17) top scored for Swindon with Simon Stead (10) providing solid support. "We certainly weren't at the races tonight and had all sorts of issues," continued Russell. "Our gating was terrible from the outset which really allowed Peterborough to gain the momentum in the early stages."
