Swindon Robins boss Russell calls for rule changes

Swindon Robins manager Ronnie Russell has called for a changes to be made to the points limit in the Elite League, so teams can have stronger squads.

Currently, teams have to build a squad using riders averages, and the total of these averages cannot exceed the points total that has been set.

Russell told BBC Wiltshire: "I would really like to see our points limit massively increased.

"This is the Elite League and we need elite riders."

Russell believes the current points limit, which is set by the British Speedway Promoters Association, is too low and it is having a knock on effect on the track.

"When it was decreased it was in the view that we would save money," he added. "We haven't saved any money at all. All we've done is lessen the product.

"I believe we're now at a time when we need less competition and greater quality."
