Alastair Seeley took his first ever British Superbike win at Brands Hatch |
Alastair Seeley clinched victory in the opening British Superbike race of the weekend at Brands Hatch on Saturday. The Carrickfergus rider came home ahead of pole position man Michael Rutter, with HM Plant Honda rider Ryuichi Kiyonari completing the podium. Seeley crashed out unhurt while lying fifth in race two and failed to finish the third of the weekend's races. Michael Laverty finished sixth in race one, improved to fourth in race two and was then ninth in the third race. Laverty set the fastest lap of the second Superbike event as he just missed out on a podium place. Kawasaki pilot Tom Sykes was the winner of that one, with Kiyonari second and North West 200 regular Rutter third. The same three riders occupied the same three positions in race three. Lisburn rider Ian Lowry was 11th in the second and third races on Paul Bird's Kawasaki. Seeley came out on top in Saturday's opening two-part race held in rain soaked conditions for his maiden BSB success. Seeley's Relentless TAS Suzuki team-mate Michael Laverty was sixth, John Laverty ninth and Lowry 10th. Michael Laverty is now fifth in the championship, with Seeley in sixth and John Laverty seventh. Antrim man John Simpson was second in the Junior Superstock race, setting the fastest lap, and he now lies third in the championship standings. Meanwhile in the Irish Superbike Championship at Mondello Park, Marshall Neill edged out Waterford man Brian McCormack by one tenth of a second in Saturday's Superbike race. Glenn Irwin broke the class lap record for the Supersport category as he won the 600cc race.
