Nicholls top-scored for Witches with 12 points against Wolverhampton |
Ipswich Witches captain Scott Nicholls says Thursday's 50-43 win against Wolverhampton was "well overdue". The win leaves bottom-placed Ipswich on 14 points in the Elite League, one point behind Eastbourne. "We've had our fair share of misfortune on the road and at home," Nicholls told BBC Radio Suffolk. "To bag three points tonight against a strong side was much deserved, so we're in good spirits and it's a confidence booster for the rest of the season." The win follows a strong performance in a 42-50 defeat at runaway leaders Poole on Wednesday. | The massive difference at Poole was that our gating was much better Ipswich captain Scott Nicholls |
"We scored more points at Poole than anybody else down there this season," Nicholls said. "We didn't win but we were right in the mix until the half-way point, but sadly it faded away towards the end." The Witches captain said the team have improved a vital aspect of their races recently. "The massive difference at Poole was that our gating was much better," he said. "That's where we've been lacking as 80 per cent of the race is won at the start." Ipswich are next in action against fifth-placed Belle Vue on 16 June.
